This is home to Mount Kenya, the world’s tallest freestanding mountain, the highest mountain in Kenya, and the second highest in Africa. It is the only place in the world where snow is found on the Equator. The combination of altitude and latitude has created giant Afro-alpine vegetation. The park preserves large areas of mountain forest and bamboo thicket, alpine moorland, glaciers, tarns and glacial moraines.
